Much has been written about dreams in ancient Egypt, says Szpakowska (Egyptology, U. of Wales-Swansea), but focusing almost entirely on their place in divination and oracles. Partly drawing on newly discovered and published texts, she explores other dimensions, such as emotional responses to dreams, people’s own perception of them, their function in politics and religion, and warding off bad dreams and nightmares.
